Control Systems Engineer

We are seeking an enthusiastic engineer or scientist with experience in control systems development development, to join our team in creating the next generation of liquid-crystal wavelength-selective optical switching technology. The role combines complex design problems with challenging practical implementation, in an exciting entrepreneurial context.

The control environment for our optical switches and associated test equipment is written in Python, using LabVIEW hardware interfaces. The successful candidate will lead the continued development and expansion of this control environment, to support the integration of new switching and test equipment. They will also take primary responsibility for the conceptual development and detailed engineering of a robust end-user control interface for our switching technology. To this end, familiarity with either the telecom or datacom network control protocols would be beneficial. Experience with experimental optical development would also be desirable.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team of experienced engineers and physicists, and play a key role in the commercialisation of our world-leading optical switching technology.

 Requirements:

  • Technical undergraduate degree (engineering, physics, computing, maths, etc.).
  • Control system programming (LabVIEW and Python).

Desirable:

  • Master’s or higher technical degrees.
  • User-interface software development.
  • Telecom or datacom switching network control.
  • Experimental optics.

Location: St John’s Innovation Centre, Cambridge.
Position type: Full time, permanent role.
Salary: Dependent on experience. The company has a share option incentive scheme.
